Politics of Lake Tahoe
Do the folks holding the money bags really want businesses to invest in the Lake Tahoe area? This question has baffled many an investor, particularly those investing in the non-South Shore areas of Lake Tahoe. Much of the Lake Tahoe’s beachfront area is protected, and undeveloped. And it seems some want it to stay that way, so beware of good deals in less populated areas.
John Muir, the famous 19-th century naturalist, would have been somewhat pacified with the environmental concern for the Lake Tahoe area (he hoped to make Lake Tahoe a National Park). However, whether some areas of Tahoe are undeveloped merely for a wealthy landholder’s personal preferences or for genuine environmental concerns remains a question.
Investing heavily in these less populated areas may not be very good for business, as businesses in the more rural areas of Tahoe often go under. Similarly, real estate in these locations may be slower to resell.
